Your app subscription is now my weekend project

Original post: Your app subscription is now my weekend project

This is a curious trend I’m seeing, but not surprising given the times we’re living in. Gergely shared the same on his newsletter.

With the capabilities of LLMs, people can now replace functionalities of products they’re paying for. Vibe coding them is fast and gives the user a very custom product that completely suits their needs.

Roberto Selbach did the same with several services, pointing out that he doesn’t consider them production-ready:

I’m still skeptical of vibecoding in general. As I mentioned above, I would not trust my vibecoding enough to make these into products. If something goes wrong, I don’t know how to fix it. Maybe my LLM friends can, but I don’t know. But vibecoding is 100% viable for personal stuff like this: we now have apps on demand.

To me, this significantly raises the bar for products on the market. If they do something useful, but very simple, their value proposition might not justify the subscription cost.
